ABOUT
INTRODUCTION
In 2020, the pandemic had us all locked down at home so we, The Sidecar Guys, decided to see if we could put a fun, virtual adventure travel event on to keep everyone entertained. The idea was just to tell some fun stories about adventure to remind everyone that there would be a time when the pandemic would end and we could all explore again. The event snowballed and in one year raised £12,500 for charity while entertaining around 40,000 armchair adventurers. Since that very first virtual event The Armchair Adventure Festival has continued to grow. Having first become an in person in event in 2021 the festival is now the UK's best celebration of adventure travel and happens every year at the incredible Mount Edgcumbe Country Park. Next year, will be our 5th in person Armchair Adventure Festival and if you are thinking of joining us, check out this below video to find out what it's all about!
WHO ARE AAF FOUNDERS, THE SIDECAR GUYS?
We're Matt and Reece and we called ourselves 'The Sidecar Guys' because it's what everyone else seemed to call us when we returned from our around the world journey by scooter and sidecar. From 2017-2019 we circumnavigated the globe by scooter and sidecar and became the first (and only) people to ever do so on that very niche kind of vehicle. We hold the Official Guinness World Record for the longest journey by scooter and sidecar and travelled 34,000 miles, through 35 countries to get it. Our trip raised funds for lots of different anti-slavery organisations and we researched the issue en route. Since returning from the trip we've written a book about the journey called 'Our Ridiculous World (Trip) - you can grab a signed copy in the shop here.
The trip took us through some of the world's toughest environments, including a Siberian winter where temperatures dropped to -40°C. You can hear us talk about it at the next Armchair Adventure Festival.
